Off Bedrest!

"What do you think you're looking at!" Ultrasound 5 weeks ago when the baby was 13 weeks
I'm officially off bedrest! Although I have to take it easy and not do any heavy household chores... haha it couldn't get any better.

It's a boy!

Today's scan revealed that there's a little boy kicking around in my belly! It will be great for Liam with a little brother to wrestle around with.
The bleeding had gotten smaller so that's good news. It turns out the placenta is a marginal previa just like my last pregnancy. But in 95% of cases it moves up as the uterus grows. Last pregnancy it moved 2cm in a week when I was about 25 weeks pregnant. Tomorrow I'm going to my regular ob and I'm curious to see what she has to say about my bedrest.

Philip and Anna visiting

Jumping in a puddle is so much fun
But you do need to focus to get it right
peekabo
I'm so happy that we have such good friends. I don't know what I'd do if Anna and Philip didn't come down to see us. Anna helps me with stuff around the house, today she made delicious pancakes and emptied the dishwasher. Philip and Liam entertain each other so Anna and I get to rest. All in all, I'm very grateful for the two of them.

Morfar is going home

Contemplating over breakfast
Our plumeria in the backyard is starting to bloom
A baby opossum visited our recycling bin
Millie, Luc and Liam having a snack
An iguana in a tree in Snyder park
Rainy season is fun
It's twice as fun when Philip's visiting. Check out more pictures of the boys on Anna's blog
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end and today it's time for morfar to go back to Sweden. We will definitely miss him, especially Liam. They've become best buddies over the last few weeks.

Playing around in the jacuzzi

My brother Nils does exactly the same face when he's kidding around. Funny that such things can run in families.

Mother's day

Cake decorating
In Luc's backyard

Jason found some mangos in an empty lot while walking the dog
An uninvited guest in our jacuzzi. Liam and Philip found it very fascinating however
On mother's day we were invited over to Jen, Al and Luc's house for brunch. We had a good time and the kids enjoyed themselves in the backyard. In the evening, we ordered food from the Cheesecake factory since my favorite dish is their Jamaican black pepper shrimp. For dessert, Jason and Liam decorated a beautiful cake for me. I also received a beautiful orchid (I love orchids). Check out Anna's blog for some nice pictures of Liam and Philip.

Fun in the jacuzzi

What could be more fun?
But unfortunately you have to get up at some point

It's started to heat up during the last few days, so every day Liam's had the mandatory swim in the jacuzzi.

An update to my condition: We went for a scan on Thursday and everything seems fine. I do have a bleed 7cm by 1,5cm but they are not concerned about it due to its location and the rest of the placenta is well attached. The reason I have to be on bed rest is 1) I'm still bleeding old blood and it gets heavier as I'm up and moving and 2) they want to avoid more bleeds. I can't wait to get the all clear to go on with my normal life. However, the baby inside is the most important and I'll do whatever it takes to keep it safe. I understand how precious life is and I'm really grateful that we didn't lose this baby.

The baby itself is growing great and looks healthy. However, the ultrasound technician described it as a "maniac" as it was jumping around as she was trying to get its measurements.

In retrospect, I'm very happy that I stopped working after the first trimester in my last pregnancy, as the placenta was even further down and I was in the business of lifting 40 pounders every day. The same thing could have happened then, but with a much worse outcome. During these last few years, I've learned to trust my instincts.

Morfar is here!

Liam trying to get morfar with the hose

We have some good news to share - Liam is going to have a sibling! I'm currently about 14 weeks pregnant. Last week, however, we had a scare when I suddently began gushing blood. Luckily, the baby is doing great but I have a hematoma that caused a little piece of the placenta to break loose. Just like my last pregnancy, the placenta is lowlying and that can cause some problems with bleeding (last pregnancy I had placenta previa which I luckily don't have this time).

I'm grateful and thrilled that my dad offered to come over and babysit Liam for 4 weeks as I'm on strict bedrest. As a bonus, my dad is awesome with Liam. They are having a great time and it makes my life so much easier!
